April Ross

April Ross is only one of the beach volleyball athletes to win medals at least twice in an Olympics. In Tokyo during the next few days, she'll try to win her third gold medal along with first-time Olympian Alix Klineman. Ross hopes to win an Olympic first gold medal, but she is also aiming to earn even more. And at the age of 39 this may be her final chance to achieve it. She remains optimistic that she'll be successful in achieving top honours. Ross told NBC Boston that if they are at their absolute best or even a good game and they are able to play well, the team will be able to win the gold medal. "I'm planning to test a little luck." Ross was a Californian born in Costa Mesa in 1982. She grew up in Costa Mesa with her mother, father and younger sister. Her athletic career was continued by Newport Harbor High School where she participated in several sports. Being a pre-athlete she was also a participant in indoor volleyball and track. She clearly was the top at the sport of indoor volleyball. The college bio says that she was an outside hitter, middle blocker and setter throughout her volleyball time at high school. Gatorade Circle Of Champions named her the national Player 1999. The skills she showed in volleyball also brought her the Orange County Athlete of the Awards in 2000. Ross Klineman and Ross may be working on a project at the beginning of 2017, but Ross had already been a seasoned volleyball player before they teamed up. It's true that she has won numerous events, one of which was with a legendary volleyball player. Ross teamed up with Jennifer Kessy from 2007-2013, and was also Klineman's trainer. Kessy as well as Ross proved to be strong on the international circuit, winning the 2009 World Championship together. They went into winning a silver at the 2012 Olympic Games at London. Misty May, Kerri Walsh and Kerri Jennings were the team that could take home the gold. Ross Jennings replaced May-Treanor after she had retired. The duo went on to earn bronze in beach volleyball during the Rio Olympics in the year 2016. Following high school, and for a few years before she hit the sand professionally, Ross balled out for the USC Trojans as an NCAA. Her career was a success in college. She was a All-American and Pac-10 Freshman of the Year when she was a teen freshman. Additionally, she assisted her Trojans to reach the Final Four. Her personal life was tense after a devastating loss in her sophomore, but was still successful in achieving the All-American distinction. In the two years she played for the Trojans she was instrumental in helping them achieve consecutive championships. As an individual, she established herself as an all-time legend winning the 2003-04 Honda Sports Award as the nation's top female collegiate volleyball player. Ross studied at USC in International Relations. Margie Ross, Ross' mother, did not have the privilege of watching her daughter become a beach volleyball superstar. Ross's mom passed away due to breast cancer while she was a sophomore at USC. This meant that Ross continues to be close to her parent who died. Also, Margie remains a source of motivation for her at the beach and in her daily life.
